This unattributed, hand-painted card is a miniature version of the common practice of illuminated addresses that recognised exceptional service whether public, civic, or community. It may have been a mock-up for a larger-format tribute. George M. Grimstead held key offices within the Manchester Unity International Order of Foresters and may well have been responsible for organising its national visit to Southampton in 1875, memorialised in a special guidebook written by Charles John Phillips and printed by the Hampshire Independent.
