The Committee beg to submit their Eighth Annual Report. Introductory.—The past year has proved one of fearful ansiety to the Jewish people. The disturbances m Germany, referred to in the last Annual Report, which resulted in what was known as the ''Anti-Semitic Movement,' have happily subsided, but those terrible persecutions to which the Jews ot Russia have been subjected, and which have no parallel in the darkest ages of the world's history, still remain unchecked. The parent institution, aided by influential bodies of Jews, have organized a humane scheme of emigration, which is now being carried into efi'ect; the assistance offered by this Branch for the extension of the project is referred to below. The Committee solicit, at this dire moment, the assistance of the humane and charitable of both sexes in aiding them to extend the usefulness of the Association.
Victorian South Russia Relief Fund—The fund for the relief of the persecuted Jews of South Russia, initiated during the past year by the Messrs. Louis Cohen and Sons, of London, was brought before the notice of the public of Victoria throng the instrumentality of this Branch, and resulted in a sum ot nearly £2,000 being remitted to London, to be distributed in the disturbed districts.
