NURSLING is a village situated on the river Test, with a railway station, 5 miles north-west from Southampton, 3| south from Romsey, 2 north from Redbridge station and 84 from London. By the County of Southampton Review Order (1932) which oame into operation on April 1st 1932, this civil parish was united with that of Rownhams. It is in the Winchester parliamentary division and in the rural deanery of Romsey, archdeaconry and diocese of Winchester. Gas and electricity are available. Water is supplied by the Southampton Corporation. The church, dedicated to St. Boniface, who resided in the monastery in the parish for twenty years and was martyred in 755, is an ancient
brick and stone edifice in the Early English style, consisting of a chancel, nave, vestry, south transept and south porch, low western tower with wooden spire and 3 bells: the chancel was restored in 1882 and the remainder of the building in 1890: the church contains several monuments : there are 200 sittings. The register dates from the year 1617. The living is a rectory, in the gift of the Bishop of Winchester, and has been held since 1950 by the Rev. John Edgar A. Hopkins M.A. of Jesus College, Cambridge, who is also minister in charge of St. Peter's, Maybush. A church room was erected in 1897 in commemoration of Queen Victoria s Diamond Jubilee. The Methodists have a chapel and Sunday school here. Grove Place was formerly used by Queen
