The Publishers in submitting to their Subscribers the Second Edition of
the Directory of Southampton, trust that it may be found, by the additional
places included in its pages, to be of greater value as a work of reference; the
insertion of such places as Eomsey, Lymington, and Lyndhurst, with others
in the neighbourhood, has, of course, largely added to the number of pages,
without the price being increased-this, the Proprietors trust, will give satisfaction.
The Information contained in the following pages includes, in addition to the ordinary matter, Official Information relating to the Borough and County I ';iSfcraey) Corporation, Local Boards, Public Establishments, Poor Law Unions, Public Officers, Newspapers, Places of Worship, Postal Information, Water and other Conveyance, Railway Stations, Carriers, &c. A complete ClassiScation of Trades has been added, which exhibits every person engaged in any Profession or Trade throughout the district embraced in the work.
The Proprietors beg to thank those Clergymen and other Gentlemen who
have given the work the benefit of their local knowledge, by correcting the proofs
submitted to them; also those Gentlemen who have supplied the Lists of .Magistrates and other information.
