27.—How Letters for India, Song Kong, Australia, Mauritius, and the Mediterranean, via Southampton, w&W & addressed.
Letters for India, Australia, Mauritius, China, Egypt, Greece, Ionian Isles, and Malta, must have the words "via Southampton" written on the address, if not intended to be sent via Marseilles.
28.—Prepayment of the Postage on Foreign Letters.
The prepayment of the postage on letters is optional to places abroad, belonging to the British, to which there are packet boats sent, except on letters for India, Hong Kong, and for places in the Mediterranean, via France.
29.—Prepayment of Postage for Letters to France.
On letters for France, the prepayment of postage is optional, or the British and foreign postage can be prepaid.
30.—Places abroad to which the British and Foreign Postage on Letters can be paid in this country.
The British and foreign postage on Letters can be prepaid to France, Sardinia, Switzerland, Bavaria, Northern States of Europe, forwarded through the office of Tour and Taxis (see note b, p. 20), Baden, German States, served by the office of Tour and Taxis (see note c, p. 20), Austrian Dominions, (see note a, p. 20), Cities of Cracow and Belgrade, Wallachia, Moldavia, Turkey in Europe, Scutari, Alexandria, Smyrna, Dardanelles, Constantinople; to Tuscany and the Two Sicilies (by French packets, via Marseilles), the Papal States, Greece, Malta, Ionian Isles, and to any British Colony or Foreign country beyond sea, except in the Mediterranean; to Spain, Portugal, Prussia, Belgium, Holland (through France) ; to Tuscany and Lucca, as far as Sarzane; to the Two Sicilies, Papal States, Modena, Parma, and Placentia, as far as San Benedetta, or Casal Pusterlengo; to Southern Poland (see note d, p. 20), as far as Podgorce; to Southern Russia (see note e, p. 20), as far as Brody; and to India, via Marseilles, as far as Bombay.

Letters should be posted before 10 at night on the 1st and 16th of every month, for the British Colonies in the West Indies (except Honduras and Bermuda), and for foreign Colonies in the West Indies (except Havannah), Venezuela, and Madeira. Before 10 at night, on the 1st of every month, for Mexico, Honduras, and Havannah. Before 10 at night, on the 16th of every month, for Bermuda, New Granada, and San Juan Nicaragua.
