Letter from John Ponsonby, first Viscount Ponsonby, [British ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary at Constantinople], to Henry John Temple, third Viscount Palmerston: he has sent a despatch concerning the state of military matters in Hungary but he now thinks they may have been exaggerated. Reports that General Bem is seriously ill in consequence of a wound. If things go ill in Hungary for the Austrians then it is probable the Russians will aid them. 13 March 1849
