Letter from John Ponsonby, first Viscount Ponsonby, [British ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary at Constantinople], to Henry John Temple, third Viscount Palmerston: he has paid Deschamps for the JOURNAL DE SYYRNA. He claimed he had been assured by Palmerston he would receive 250 subscriptions. Ponsonby got Mr. Churchill to state to him the Ponsonby would not give him so large a sum without specific orders from home. He encloses a receipt. 5 May 1841 Enclosed is: (i) a receipt from W.N.Churchill, Constantinople to Ponsonby for 28,800 Piastres, 5 May 1841 (ii) a wrapper
