Letter from John Ponsonby, second Baron Ponsonby, later first Viscount Ponsonby, [ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary at Constantinople], to Henry John Temple, third Viscount Palmerston: the Ottoman ministers asked Ponsonby to write to Palmerston about the nishan. He did nothing further than carry out Palmerston's instructions. 8 Feb 1839 It is noted that the letter was received on 5 March 1839.
