Letter from John Ponsonby, second Baron Ponsonby, later first Viscount Ponsonby, [ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary at Constantinople], to Henry John Temple, third Viscount Palmerston: [Transcript] "The chief matter of the commercial convention is pretty well known and I am happy to say that all the merchants as well English as of other nations seem to be extremely pleased with it." 29 Aug 1838 The letter is marked: "Private" and it is noted that it was received on 21 September 1838.
