Letter from William Lamb, second Viscount Melbourne, South Street, to Henry John Temple, third Viscount Palmerston: Palmerston had better get Leopold to arrange that neither his brother nor his nephew should come at present. Melbourne was struck by the Duchess of Kent and the Princesses’ absence from the Drawing Room. He is afraid that it will no longer be easy to prevent an official rupture. 9 May 1836
