Date:

Content:
Letter from William Lamb, second Viscount Melbourne, to Henry John Temple, third Viscount Palmerston: Palmerston’s note respecting Cracow for presentation at Vienna, Berlin and St Petersburg is clear and its priorities are in general undeniable. Doubts whether it is prudent or dignified to proceed in so very a formal manner in a matter which Palmerston is neither able nor prepared to push to extremities. Melbourne fears it a step which may cause offence without having any effect. Suggests Palmerston communicates with the ministers at the respective courts. The Treaty of Vienna. 8 Apr 1836
