Title:
PP/GC/ME/32 Letter from William Lamb, second Viscount Melbourne to Henry John Temple, third Viscount Palmerston, regarding a suitable husband for the Queen of Portugal, 13 June 1835
Date:
13/06/1835
Content:
Letter from William Lamb, second Viscount Melbourne, South Street, to Henry John Temple, third Viscount Palmerston: they need to speak openly and arrange the matter without delay. There are too many obstacles in the way to Leuchtenberg: “Cannot you find another young German prince?” Asks if Palmerston has been in contact with Sarmento and Granville. A French prince in Portugal would be “much in the power of England”. 13 Jun 1835
