PP/GC/ME/31 Letter from William Lamb, second Viscount Melbourne to Henry John Temple, third Viscount Palmerston, [?emigration and the situation in Spain], 11 June 1835
Date:
11/05/1835
Content:
Letter from William Lamb, second Viscount Melbourne, South Street, to Henry John Temple, third Viscount Palmerston: unwise to let it be known that they are directed to recruit in the Roman Catholic counties of Ireland: it would raise an obstacle if it were thought that it was a scheme of the government’s to get rid of the Roman Catholic population. Asks if something could be “done with the Poles”. Villiers’ last despatch in which he says intervention is denied is significant proof of the propriety of their determination. Strangeway’s letter. 11 Jun 1835
