Letter from William Lamb, second Viscount Melbourne, to Henry John Temple, third Viscount Palmerston: Lord Melbourne understands the general purport and results of the audiences which the Queen gave to the Duke of Wellington and Sir Robert Peel. Sir Robert Peel proposed to the Queen that he should have to power of removing the Ladies of Her Household, but not stating distinctly or precisely the extent to which he intended to exercise this power but giving the impression he intended to insist upon the removal of the Mistress of the Robes and all the Ladies of the Bedchamber. May 1839
