Letter from William Lamb, second Viscount Melbourne, South Street, to Henry John Temple, third Viscount Palmerston: thinks the effect of the treaty of Adrianople is too grave and serious a question for Palmerston to give a decided opinion upon in a debate and Melbourne think it perfectly acceptable for Palmerston to avoid it. An important question arose upon the construction of the fourth article. Melbourne has offered the Dean of Bristol to Musgrave of Trinity; he was told it was necessary to do something to encourage Whig friends at Cambridge. Whatever Metternich’s opinion may be, Melbourne fears [?ega] not to be relied upon 17 Mar 1837
