PP/GC/ME/135 Letter from William Lamb, second Viscount Melbourne to Henry John Temple, third Viscount Palmerston, regarding a position for Dr. Lamb, 14 October 1836
Date:

Content:
Letter from William Lamb, second Viscount Melbourne, to Henry John Temple, third Viscount Palmerston: he has long known that nothing could be so desirable as to promote Dr. Lamb. At the same time, from what Melbourne has heard of him, he thinks “he would hardly do for a Bishop.” There is no large Crown living vacant at present. Melbourne has always intended him for the first deanery he has to give. 14 Oct 1836
