Letter from William Lamb, second Viscount Melbourne, to Henry John Temple, third Viscount Palmerston: Lyndhurst said in his speech that the assistance Britain had given to Spain had lost the country between one and two million pounds. Melbourne feels that this can hardly be true and that it should be contradicted if it is a gross exaggeration. 22 Aug 1836
