Title:
PP/GC/ME/107 Letter from William Lamb, second Viscount Melbourne to Henry John Temple, third Viscount Palmerston, regarding relations with France and Russia, 5 July 1836
Date:
05/06/1836
Content:
Letter from William Lamb, second Viscount Melbourne, Downing Street, to Henry John Temple, third Viscount Palmerston: he thinks the letter is very proper. He has not yet been able to read the papers relating to the affair. He cannot give an opinion whether it would justify a demand of the discussion of the two ministers: it would need to be a very strong case to justify this. Melbourne is against asking the French government because the influence of Russia may cause the demand to be refused; because he maybe represented as being exorbitant and because it would afford a precedent to the other powers to do the same. 5 Jul 1836
