PP/GC/LE/64 Letter from Sir G.C.Lewis to Henry John Temple, third Viscount Palmerston regarding the Sardinian convention and loan, 11 June 1856
Letter from Sir George Cornewall Lewis, second Baronet, [Chancellor of the Exchequer], Downing Street, [Whitehall, London], to Henry John Temple, third Viscount Palmerston: he has sent to the Queen for her signature a message to both houses of Parliament concerning the Sardinian convention. "I have followed the message of last year as nearly as I could, but have made it shorter, in order to avoid giving it undue importance." The convention will be presented at the same time, and will be accompanied by a full explanation of the transaction. It is not necessary to bring down a message for the vote of credit. 11 Jun 1856
