PP/GC/LE/157 Letter from Sir G.C.Lewis, to Henry John Temple, third Viscount Palmerston, regarding the total cost of sending troops to Canada, 6 Feburary 1862
Letter from Sir George Cornewall Lewis, second Baronet, [Secretary of State for War], Kent House, [Knightsbridge, London], to Henry John Temple, third Viscount Palmerston: the account of the extra expenses of troops for Canada is not yet complete as the amount of money spent in Canada is not known. It is likely to be a little over a million pounds but less than a million and a half. Much of this expenditure is on arms and stores; this will not be wasted as they can be used in the future. 6 Feb 1862
