In a collection of bindings, pastedowns and manuscript notes removed from books in the Southampton University Library during binding
Caption:
Fletcher Forbes & Fletcher was one permutation of a long-standing printing, bookselling, and publishing dynasty which began with the marriage of Issac Fletcher to Charlotte Baker in 1802. This binder's ticket shows how entrenched the firm was by the 1840s. The later bookplate of Southampton Public Library appears on the inside front board of book. The Hartley Institution label on the front outside board include pencil annotations with the number of days for allowed for borrowing and the fine for infringement of the library's rules.
