George Buxey took over the Southern Observer Printing Office in 1879. His son later established the Holy Rood Printing Works and diversified into maps. In 1897, he published this large-scale map based on the Ordnance Survey sheets for Southampton, drawn and engraved by G.W. Bacon & Co, Ltd, Strand, London, and folded down into a handy octavo-sized pocketbook.
