may keep pace with the material and intellectual advancement of the age. The accomplishment of our work will be facilitated if we succeed in effecting a radical change in the Talmud Tora Schools. The instruction given in these institutions ought to be of a more thorough and careful nature. It is mainly the want of pecuniary means which is palpable in this instance. Unfortunately our local resources are altogether insufficient, and we require the generous aid of benefactors in Western Europe. Let it be borne in mind that notwithstanding all existing obstacles, our pupils find many facilities for pursuing an honourable career.
