Toronto, 2Wi March, 1881.
The Rev. A. Lowy recently initiated a correspondence with Mark Samuel, Esq., formerly a member of the Liverpool (England) Branch, with a view that offshoots of the Anglo-Jewish Association might be planted in Canada. A meeting with that object was accordingly held at Toronto on the 6th February, and was numerously attended.
Great enthusiasm was manifested, and warm appreciation evinced of the beneficent efforts of the Association to promote education among our less fortunately circumstanced brethren in faith, as likewise to render them effectual aid when suffering under the iron hand of relentless persecution and unreasoning bigotry.
It was unanimously decided to form a Toronto Branch, and all those present immediately enrolled themselves as Members.
Subsequent canvassing has been most encouraging, and we now have the pleasure of recording that we muster upwards of sixty Subscribers.
This City has thus the distinction of being the first in the Dominion to give tangible evidence of its sympathy with the good work being accomplished by the Association.
