The Committee have pleasure in being- able to report that, notwithstanding the great depression of trade in this district during, the past year, the number of Subscribers has been well maintained.
The Balance-Sheet shows, on January 1st, £108 lis. 2d. to the credit of the Branch. Of this amount the sum of £50 has been given to the new School at Damascus, and £50 to the new School at Jerusalem.
The £100 voted for Scholarships last year has been applied as follows :—£60 for one Scholarship of £15 per annum, tenable for four years, at the Alliance Israelite School, at Bagdad, and £40 for another Scholarship of £13 6s. 8d. per annum for three years, tenable by a member of the Beni Israel Community of Bombay, who shall declare his intention of becoming a teacher at the expiration of such period.
