The past year has been one of great activity in both departments of the Anglo-Jewish Association—the protection of the interests of oppressed Jewish populations, and the education of Jewish boys and girls. In the former branch of their work the Council have continued to enjoy ready access to Her Majesty's Government. Unhappily, the Council have had frequent occasions during the year to invoke the good offices of the Government on behalf of persecuted Jews in Asiatic Turkey (notably Bagdad), in Persia, and in Morocco, and they are gratified to state that the prompt action taken by Her Majesty's Secretary for Foreign Affairs has, in the majority of cases, led to justice being obtained for the victims of oppression. The co- operation of the Board of Deputies has been of the utmost advantage to the Council in the communications made to the Foreign Office. The efforts of Sir Albert Sassoon, the head of the firm of Messrs. David Sassoon and Co., have also been of much assistance in cases where his great personal influence in the East could be of service in carrying out the work of the Association.
The intimate relations maintained with the Alliance Israelite Universelle have continued to be ot the greatest advantage to the two Institutions.
In conjunction with the Board of Deputies, the Council presented Addresses of Congratulation to the Queen and the
