REPLY TO THE PETITION PRESENTED TO THE SHAH.
Buckingham Palace,
July, 5 th 1873.
I am commanded by the Shah to acknowledge the receipt of your Address, congratulating his Majesty on his arrival in England, and praying for the redress of certain grievances and disabilities under which it is stated that the Jews in Persia labor.
His Majesty is certainly desirous that no distinction should be made between the various classes of his subjects in regard to the enjoyment of religious freedom and civil rights, and he will accordingly on his return to his country give attention to the various points which you have brought to his notice, with a view of improving the condition of the various Jewish Communities in Persia, whom he has always regarded as industrious and loyal citizens.
His Majesty also thanks you for the many kind wishes you have expressed towards him.
(Signed) MALCOM.
