W. It. Applegarth, the 220 yards amateur chain-nion. did the performances of hi* life at the South London Harriers' meeting at the Oval on Saturday.
Ho won both the sprint and the 220 yards scratch race, and in such tune as to stamp him a veritable champion of champions.
Starting from scratch in the shorter distance, he won his heat in 10 l-5*eea.,.and beet Slewarl. of Australia, Rice (British Olympic team), anil ' Led ran, the 100 yards and 440 yards champion of Essex, in the second round.
In the final, although somewhat slow off tho mark, lie got very quickly into his running, and finished inches in front of Gould (7J yards), tho time being a shade inside 10 sees, by three time-
