provisions of the " Local Government Act, 1894 " (56 and 57-Vict. c. 73), and by the same Act created a civil parish March 26, 1894. By local Government Board Order No. 37, i9"> which came into operation April 1, 1898, sarts of the civil parishes of North Stoneham and South Stoneham were added to the civil parish and Urban District of Eastleigh, and 3y Order No. 39, 518, which came into operation April 1, 1899, part of the civil parish of Bishopstoke was added to the Urban District, which was renamed Eastleigh ana Bishopstoke. The district is now governed by -an Urban Council of fifteen members, nine representing Eastleigh. and three Bishop-stoke. The Urban District is in two Poor Law Unions, Eastleigh being ra the Souta Stoneham Union and Bishopstoke in the New Winchester Union. The district has grown immensely in the last few years owing to the erect'ion of the large cariweand locomotive works of the h. and 8.
