The Committee, formed under Section 17 of the " Education Act, 1903," consists of 31 members, of whom 10 are co-optative members, the 21 representative members appointed by the County Borough Council from its own members, one of whom shall be chairman of the committee, and the co-optative members selected, except the principal of the University College of Southampton for the time being, by the Council, from persons experienced in education and acquainted with the needs of the various kinds of schools in the borough. The members of the committee shall hold office until the 9th day of November (or, if that day be a Sunday, until the 10th day of November) in each year next succeeding the date of their appointment; provided nevertheless that any member may at any time resign by signing and delivering to the Mayor or Town Clerk a notice in writing to that effect. The members of the committee shall be appointed annually by the Council at the same meeting at which the other standing committees of the Council are elected.
