This Institution was established for the purpose of extending the benefits of Mutual Assurance to all classes of society, and for the more effectual attainment of this object, enrolled under Acts of Parliament, passed 10th Geo. IV., 4th and 5th William IV., as amended by 3d and 4th Vic., relating to Friendly Societies, thereby securing many important privileges which are conferred on Institutions of this nature, amongst which are the following:—
Permission to invest p&rt of the funds with the National Debt Commissioners, free from loss by fluctuation in value, and at a liberal rate of interest.
No personal liability.
No member can be involved in legal expense, as, should any dispute arise, it must be settled by arbitrators appointed agreeably with the aforesaid Acts of Parliament.
Assurers may secure the benefits of their policies (by the appointment of nominees) to meet every contingency, free of expense.
1 hese privileges over ordinary Life Assurance Companies afford to the members the protection and benefit of Life Assurance at the least possible cost; and as th»re is no interest payable on subscribed capital, and no shares of profits for proprietors (there being no proprietary but the assurers themselves), thb whole I'hopits are divided amongst them, and appropriated (at their option) in reduction of future premiums, or by addition to the sums assured.
Tho Income arising from Premiums, and Interest on Capital, on
the 20th November last, was £44,219.17s.
